Many thanks to all of you who sent in your wheelchair rugby surveys on time. After the extension, we received 49 of the 100 surveys that were sent out, for an impressive 49% return rate, which most pollsters would be envious of. Congrats to Kevin McEwen, who was the quickest to send in their survey. Unfortunately no 50th prize was awarded, although it would have gone out if only one extra survey had been received. Kevin received a nice Canada Rugby Adidas Climacool shirt for his efforts.

After the CWRC reviews the results of this survey, it is anticipated that a follow-up survey will be sent out based on the input that was given to us. Expect another unannounced contest with similar numbers, and maybe one in the middle as well. [Read the blog and reap the benefits... too easy!]

Recent activity at the international level saw a team of Canadian low-pointers from the National Team program participate at the 2007 ParaGamesBreda in the Netherlands. Breda is a very old and scenic city, and aside from the difficult cobblestone paths and roads, was very much enjoyed by everyone on the team.

Our team at this tournament included:

[From the far left:]
1.5 Erika Schmütz (Whitby, ON) (1.0 at this tournament due to their rules for female athletes)
1.5 Patrice Simard (Quebec, QC)
1.0 Mike Bacon (Saskatoon, SK)
1.0 Trevor Hirschfield (Parksville, BC)
0.5 Daniel Paradis (Quebec, QC)
0.5 Martin Mainguy (Quebec, QC)
1.5 Jason Crone (Owen Sound, ON)
0.5 Jared Funk (Niverville, MB)

Coach: Benoit Labrecque (Quebec, QC)
Equipment Manager: Bob Hirschfield (Parksville, BC)

Canadian Referee: Kevin Bowie (Vancouver, BC)

Check out the photo gallery from the ParaGamesBreda, where you'll see a fair amount of Canadian content. Our team went undefeated throughout the tournament and will likely want to defend it's title in two years at their next multi-sport event.
