This weekend, rugby action moves in to Edmonton, where a six-team round robin tournament is being run by the local team, The Steel Wheels. The tournament will be held at W.P. Wagner High School in Edmonton, AB.

The schedule and rosters of the teams is now available on the CWSA web site, and the tournament will be showcasing players and teams from two countries, and seven provinces and states.

The Bluenoser team is going to be playing Iron Man Rugby, with two players from the National Team (Publicover and Schmütz) and one player from last year's edition of the National Team (Stevie Dunn). Their fourth Ironman is either Arin Smith from Winnipeg, or a new player... I'm still waiting for confirmation.

The prairie boys from Saskatchewan lost regular 2.0, and long time national team member, Daryl Stubel to a work commitment, and only have local player Scott Barlund for Friday's games. That sets them up for playing with a 2.0 - 1.5 - 1.0 - 0.5 lineup for most of their games, which will make it tough for the Sasksquash... but they still have the best name! Anyone who is able to suit up for this team should contact Mike Bacon right away!

British Columbia has two teams at the tournament, while Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, the hosts from Alberta and a team from Seattle, Washington round out the teams.

Adam Frost, the Assistant National Coach, will be anchoring the BC #1 team, while National Team 3.0 Ian Chan will be #1 on the BC #2 team (Black).

2004 and 2003 results from the same tournament can be accessed in a flash...

Results and rosters!

For those of you interested in photos galleries, there is some significant Canadian content in the New Zealand Nationals gallery, taken by Jon Corson of CorsonHarris Consulting.

There are also several other wheelchair rugby galleries on the same site, with photos by both Corson, and Cherie Harris. Check them out! My favourite shot is a new one, showing a grinning Zupan in his "new chair." ;)
