This past weekend in Vancouver, the 18 players on the National Team and the National Squad took part in another National Training Camp in Vancouver, BC. This was held in the days preceding the International tournament that was to be held in nearby Burnaby. Full results of the Vancouver Invitational Wheelchair Rugby Tournament will be posted when the results become available.
Another site worth checking out is the new Australian Wheelchair Rugby web site, which has commentary on their three week US tour which echoed the schedule of our own tour. Their site is in it's early stages of development, and they would appreciate feedback, so check it out!
Our national athletes will soon be breaking into their respective provincial teams to compete in the Canadian National Championships in London, Ontario. The BC Bandits are the team to beat, as they have a record of nine straight national or regional titles. Last year Team Ontario beat BC in the pools only to fall to the defending champs by a single goal in the goal medal game. The Québec Impact could also unthrone BC as their single meeting at the 2001 Nationals was a nail biter. Sasksquash, the provincial team from Saskatchewan, narrowly lost to Québec for the bronze by a single point, so this year's Nationals promises to be the most exciting one yet!
