Here is a look at the pool results from the 2003 European Championships, which were recently held in Lommel, Belgium.
The Brits ended up winning the final by a single point over the Belgians, in what was apparantly a great game. Here are the final results and the games won/lost.
1. Great Britain (7-0)
2. Belgium (6-1)
3. Germany (5-2)
4. Denmark (4-3)
5. Sweden (5-2)
6. The Netherlands (4-3)
7. Switzerland (3-4)
8. Austria (2-5)
9. Poland (3-4)
10. Finland (2-5)
11. Ireland (1-6)
12. Norway (0-7)
In addition to the previously mentioned Brits whose classifications changed (Lilley and Frishberg), the Irish team lost their new 2.5, Philip Gibson, who was rated a 3.75 after re-classification. The Danes got some good news when Bernhard Sorenson was classed down to a 2.5. As for Lilley, it was his 3rd reclassification, so I suspect that he will be out of the sport internationally until 2006. It is anticipated that Lilley will continue to train and compete within his home country as a 4.0, in hopes that he can get re-classified as a 3.5 in three years.
